Blow Dry & Blow Wave Brisbane & Gold Coast

A great blow dry is not one finish applied to every head of hair. It is the right cleanse, preparation, brush work and control for the way you want your hair to look and move.

Choose smooth polish, soft movement, bouncy volume or an event ready foundation at 18 Epic salons across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Consultation before the brush

Tell us how you want the hair to feel, not only how you want it to look.

A photograph can show the volume and shape you like, but your stylist also needs to know whether you want the finish touchable, controlled, sleek, soft or able to support additional styling.

Hair texture, layers, density, current condition and scalp comfort all affect product choice, heat, section size and brush tension. Your event, daily routine and the Queensland weather matter too.

  • Agree on smoothness, movement, root lift and the shape through the ends.
  • Disclose extensions, scalp sensitivity and fragile or heat affected areas.
  • Mention hot tool curls, straightening or pinning when booking so enough time is reserved.

A blow dry and a detailed event style are not always the same appointment. Clear booking information gives the stylist enough time to create the result you expect.

Blow dry finishes

Smooth, bouncy, soft or styled for the occasion.

These finish directions can be adapted to short, medium and long hair. Your haircut, natural texture and condition determine the most realistic shape.

Short bob styled with a sleek smooth blow dry finish

Smooth and polished

Controlled roots, refined surface and a clean shape through the ends. The result can be straight and sleek or softly curved so it still has movement.

Brunette hair styled with full bouncy volume and movement

Bouncy volume

Root lift, curved ends and fuller movement can add shape to long layers, medium hair and styles that feel flat when dried at home.

Long brunette hair finished with soft polished waves

Soft movement and waves

A rounded blow dry can create bends and movement. More defined or structured waves may require additional hot tool work, depending on your hair and reference.

Medium length red hair styled with soft event ready curls

Event ready styling

For a dinner, photo session, work event or celebration, the finish can be refined around your outfit and timing. Pinning, accessories or an upstyle need the appropriate service.

What changes the result

The same brush technique does not suit every head of hair.

Your stylist adjusts preparation, sectioning, airflow and finishing according to the hair in front of them.

01

Length and density

Long, thick or dense hair changes drying time, section size and the support needed through the ends.

02

Texture and condition

Fine, curly, porous, fragile or resistant hair needs different product weight, temperature and tension.

03

The finish

Sleek polish, soft movement, root lift and structured waves require different brush work and may need extra styling time.

04

Your real day

Exercise, rain, coastal air, humidity, travel and event timing can influence the most practical style and aftercare.

Technique in the details

The brush sets the shape before finishing product ever does.

Brush diameter, section size, airflow and direction determine where the hair lifts, bends and smooths. Controlled tension can refine the surface, while cooling and setting help preserve the movement created during drying.

Your stylist changes those decisions through the head. The roots may need lift, the mid lengths may need polish and the ends may need a different curve according to the haircut.

  • Section size is adjusted for density and the level of control required.
  • Heat and tension are moderated for condition, sensitivity and texture.
  • The final movement is checked from the front, sides and back before you leave.

The client experience

A basin service, thoughtful preparation and a finish made for you.

Your appointment begins with professional cleansing and conditioning. The stylist then selects preparation and finishing products according to your hair, rather than layering the same routine onto every client.

The Epic stylist finder includes Blow Dries as a specialty. Use it if you want to compare stylists and salons before booking.

Cleanse

Prepare the hair properly.

Shampoo and conditioning are chosen around the scalp, hair condition, weight and finish you want.

Protect

Use controlled heat and suitable products.

Preparation should support smoothness, volume or hold without coating the hair unnecessarily.

Shape

Build the result section by section.

Brush size, airflow, direction and tension are adjusted to your texture, layers and desired movement.

Finish

Check the balance and explain the care.

Your stylist refines the shape, applies appropriate finishing product and discusses how to protect it at home.

Your appointment

From the basin to the final movement.

The details change with your hair, but the service should remain clear from consultation through to the finished result.

01

Consult

Agree on the finish, event, time available, scalp comfort and any additional styling.

02

Cleanse

Shampoo and condition the hair with professional products selected for the service.

03

Prepare

Apply appropriate heat protection, support, smoothing or volume products.

04

Shape

Dry and direct the hair with brush work suited to its length, layers and texture.

05

Refine

Finish the surface and ends, then discuss humidity, sleep and refresh advice.

Book the right service

A regular blow dry and detailed event styling need different time.

The clearest appointment starts with an honest description of your hair and the finished look.

For a professional blow dry

  • Choose smoothness, volume, movement or a soft bend.
  • Share your hair length, density, texture and extensions.
  • Add a treatment when booking if you want extra basin care.
  • Ask for current pricing and the expected appointment time.

For extra styling

  • Mention GHD curls or additional straightening before the appointment.
  • Book an event service for pinning, a structured ponytail or an upstyle.
  • Bring the accessory if a clip, veil or fascinator affects the design.
  • Allow the salon to match the service and stylist to the reference.

Pricing and regular styling

Check the service, salon and expected price before styling begins.

Price and time can be affected by the salon, hair length, thickness, density, service complexity and additional styling required. Your stylist will confirm the expected price before the service begins. A 16% Saturday surcharge applies to salon services.

If you have regular blow dries, the Apprentice Blow Dry Club is a separate training focused membership. It operates through limited places and a waiting list, with appointments primarily performed by apprentices under the programme conditions.

Blow dry and blow wave FAQs

Useful answers before you book.

These answers clarify the service, styling extras, longevity, texture, pricing and regular appointment options.

What is the difference between a blow dry and a blow wave?

In Australian salon language, blow dry and blow wave commonly describe the same core service: styling damp hair with a dryer and brushes. Blowout is another international term. The useful detail is the finish you want, such as smooth, bouncy, soft or full of movement.

Does an Epic blow dry include a shampoo and conditioner?

A standard Epic blow dry includes professional shampoo and conditioning, followed by the blow dry finish. If you are booking dry styling, hot tool work or another service combination, confirm the exact appointment type with the salon.

Should I wash my hair before the appointment?

You do not need to wash it immediately before a standard blow dry because cleansing is part of the service. Tell the salon if you have heavy product build up, extensions, scalp sensitivity or another service booked first so the right preparation and time can be planned.

What blow dry finishes can I request?

You can discuss a smooth polished finish, root lift and bounce, soft bends, controlled movement or a more event focused result. Your hair length, layers, density and natural texture will affect how the reference is translated.

Are curls or straightening with hot tools included?

Additional curling, straightening or detailed hot tool work may require an added service, extra time and an additional charge. Mention it when booking rather than waiting until the appointment, especially for an event.

Is an upstyle the same as a blow dry?

No. An upstyle, structured ponytail, pinned style or detailed half up look generally needs a different appointment allocation. Explore wedding and event hair styling or ask your salon to book the correct styling service.

How long does a blow dry appointment take?

Timing depends on hair length, thickness, density, texture, condition and the finish requested. Long or dense hair and additional hot tool work may need more time, so include those details when booking.

How long will my blow dry last?

There is no reliable fixed number of days for every client. Longevity changes with hair texture, scalp oil, style choice, sleep, exercise, rain and Queensland humidity. Your stylist can recommend care for your particular finish.

How can I help my blow dry last in Brisbane or Gold Coast humidity?

Keep the hair dry, avoid steamy bathrooms where possible and use only the finishing products recommended for your hair. A loose bedtime wrap, appropriate brush and dry shampoo can help some clients, but the advice should suit the finish and scalp.

Can you blow dry curly, coily or very textured hair?

Yes, subject to matching the appointment with a suitable stylist and enough time. Use the Epic stylist finder and describe your texture, length, density and desired finish when booking.

Can I have a blow dry with hair extensions?

Yes, provided the extensions are suitable for heat styling and the stylist knows what you are wearing. Tell the salon whether they are tape, weft, keratin, clip in or another method. Explore Showpony tape hair extensions if you are considering added length or fullness.

Can I add a hair treatment to my blow dry?

Often, yes. The right treatment depends on condition, time and the finish you want. Explore Epic hair treatments and add the treatment when booking so sufficient basin time is reserved.

Is a blow dry suitable for fine, mature or thinning hair?

It can be. The stylist can adjust product amount, heat, brush tension and root lift to create polish or volume without making the hair feel overloaded. Share any scalp sensitivity, fragile areas or concerns during consultation.

Can I book a blow dry for a wedding or event?

Yes. A blow dry can suit worn down event hair, but additional waves, hot tool work, accessories or pinning may need a different service. For bridal, formal and structured event looks, see wedding and event hair styling.

What is the Apprentice Blow Dry Club?

It is a separate training focused membership for eligible blow dries performed primarily by Epic apprentices. Places and appointments are limited and conditions apply. Read the current Apprentice Blow Dry Club page before requesting the waiting list.

How much does a blow dry cost at Epic?

Price depends on the salon, the service booked and what your hair and finish require. Choose a salon to view its current price list. Your expected price is confirmed before the service begins, and a 16% Saturday surcharge applies to salon services.

Can I book a blow dry at every Epic salon?

Blow dry services are available through Epic’s salon network, with appointment and stylist availability varying by location. Use the stylist finder, select Blow Dries as the specialty and choose your preferred salon.
