The Annual Epic Walk for DV Raises $95,0000 for Domestic Violence

On Sunday, March 26 our Brisbane Community came together in a purple sea of 700 people and walked a loop from New Farm Park to Teneriffe – publicly taking a stand against domestic violence.

Epic Hair Designs once again partnered with Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ) for the second annual Epic Walk for DV, to raise awareness and vital funds for women and families impacted by domestic violence. Last year, WLSQ provided over 38,000 services to Queensland women experiencing domestic violence and sadly they have seen an increase in demand. This year, we are determined to change this.

The 2023 Epic Walk set out a mission to raise $60,000 to create an online platform for WLSQ that is more accessible, mobile-friendly, and informative for women in need. With the help of our epic community, not only did we reach our goal of $60,000 but we raised an incredible $95,000!

This money will directly impact WLSQ and their ability to help women and children experiencing domestic violence through a new online communication plan. Just $50 will facilitate a 30-minute legal consultation to help someone take the next step in starting a new life – imagine what $95,000 will achieve!

The walk was presented by Channel 10’s Brendan Smith and opened by Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner. Several notable individuals were also in attendance, including CR Vicky Howard, David Crisafulli, Katie Stevens and Attorney General of Queensland Shannon Fentiman who presented a compelling speech after the walk. We also welcomed Nadia Bromley (CEO of WLSQ) and Famin Makes who set up a hat stall where all proceeds were donated to WLSQ.

We couldn’t have achieved this amazing number without the unwavering commitment of our community to make a difference in the world – and for that we thank you. The success of the event was due to the incredible effort put in by all involved, from fundraisers to volunteers and our sponsors.
