Last week hosted an unmatchable experience for three of our hairdressers as they flew down to Sydney to style for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016. This week is Australia’s only international fashion platform to showcase the most sophisticated and current fashions created by down under designers. From international supermodels, Justin Bieber songs on the orchestra and a standing-ovation-earning collection, 2016 was a show to remember: particularly for our hairdressers Hayden Patchett, Louise Hodkinson and Krystall Purnell.
Day 1 of the event saw the ever popular MISHA Collection showcasing a modern take on its usual styles representing feminity, elegance and simplicity all in one. A landmark in Australian Fashion, MISHA Collection saw its beautiful clothing draped on supermodel Bella Hadid as she opened and closed for the show. To begin with Hadid opened the show wearing a black lace skirt over a black strapless corset and closed the collection showing off a blush-coloured short, strapless corset-styled mini dress and long, fluid coat. MISHA’s ability to consistently provide chic, interesting designs is why they continue to be such a big name on the Australian fashion scene and our stylist, Hayden Patchett, manager of our Kenmore salon, was lucky enough to do the hair of 2 models.
Initially only to do one model, Hayden had the time and skill to style another model while contributing to more models styles. Under the hair direction of the fantastic Dale Delaporte of Prema Hair in Sydney, Hayden helped create the stylish hair design of a plain, low slicked ponytail with a middle part. Due to its simple and modern appearance, this style is trending hot right now. He used many fantastic Goldwell products including a Freezepump, Powerwhip, Illuminator and Diamond Gloss. This experience is another to add to Hayden’s rich history of competitions, shows and accreditation’s he has achieved over a successful 16 years in the industry.
The following day showcased Karla Spetic. Showing at Fashion Week since 2008, this label consistently turns out crisp, sometimes graphic pieces that had an extra punch this year which was an immediate crowd pleaser. Reigning from Croatia and moving to Australia in 1993, this season was dedicated to her home-town of Dubrovnik. Predominately white and lavender with some touches of navy, designs varied from simple shades with unique textures and silhouettes to heavily graphic pieces relating to the lavender of back home.
Epic contributed to a second show that day, Steven Khalil. Khalil completed his fashion studies at 19 and was appointed Head Designer of a Sydney Bridal House at just 22 years old so it is no wonder that this designer’s elegant gowns that contrasted a week full of ready-to-wear designs was considered the show of the week by general consensus. His bold and dramatic designs were supported by an equally risk-taking yet effective show, having Sorry by Justin Bieber performed by an orchestra as the final model closed the show in a beautiful bridal gown detailed with impressively elegant embroidery and bead-work. The show was followed by the weeks only standing ovation which highly reflects the brands enormous name and respect in the industry. The week leading up to Khalil’s 2nd ever MBFWA show saw Eurovision runner-up Dami Im exhibiting a gorgeous silver gown featuring a bold, one shoulder sleeve and a high middle split.
Both Epic stylist, Louise Hodkinson and Krystal Purnell contributed styles to these shows. Flaunting the ever stylish low ponytail, Karla Spetic differed from MISHA Collection with a side part and a cool deep finger wave fringe which the models looked beautiful in. As for Steven Khalil, the girls worked with many Goldwell products such as StyleSign Curl Love, Glamour Whip, Double Boost and Big Finish Hairspray to create a look of wavy hair out and behind the ears that perfectly balanced between simple and stylish, just like Khalil’s designs.
Louise can be most regularly found managing our Newmarket Salon (although she is known to helping out across many of our salons) and Krystal marks the newest out of the three, as she manages our Bardon Salon which opened late 2015. Both these girls had a blast furthering their experience with fashion styling and they are both a testament of the hardworking, fun-loving atmosphere of the Epic hair stylist.
