Five Hair Colour Trends To Try This Winter

Featured Hair Trends
May 16, 2022

With the changing of seasons, you’ve probably thought about changing your hair colour too. As winter comes around, we live buried under layers of wool and rely on great hair to upgrade our ‘just-rolled-out-of-bed’ look. Since we switch up our wardrobe and our beauty routine (hello moisture!) for the colder months, why not try a fresh new colour too?

Winter is the season of contrasts, that’s why shifting your hair colour one or two shades warmer can instantly brighten your face. At the same time, if you are willing to dip into the red pallet, you could go for passionate hues or try cherry-based reds. As always, cool-toned blondes are very welcome for the coldest days of the year. So, below we break down five new hair colours you’ll see everywhere this winter.

1. Winter Bronde

For the indecisive beauties, you can get the best of both worlds and blend blonde and brunette to create a winter-appropriate ‘bronde’. Let your darker roots gradually get lighter by using a smudging technique to achieve a reverse ombre effect. For the colder days, we suggest trying a cool blonde tone or warm light brown shades as opposed to warm golden hues. For the blondes, we suggest deepening your colour, especially around the roots for a warm, sunset blonde shade that is effortlessly timeless.

2. Espresso Grind

The darker the hair, the sweeter the shade. You can never go wrong with deep, dark brown shades in the wintertime. A rich coffee shade is perfect for embracing the cold weather and will work with every item in your wardrobe. The best part? It won’t require a lot of salon upkeep, and you can always try the grow-out friendly route with touches of balayage on the mid-lengths and ends. This low-maintenance colour is sure to give you that morning boost when the weather is bringing you down. We suggest asking your stylist for colour support products to maintain shine and depth between salon visits.

3. Raspberry Beret

Just because it’s cold outside, doesn’t mean your hair can’t embrace the warmth. Red and berry shades are a common trend and it isn’t slowing down any time soon. Find the perfect marriage of warmth and depth that has a brown background with a deep raspberry reflection. Think deep, blue and berry undertones with natural finishes. This shade is perfect for winter because it really stands out against the neutral winter shades in our wardrobe (which is basically just lots and lots of black).

4. Cool Copper

Take a note from Kendall Jenner’s look book and try this copper red and bronze brown mixture. The hair colour has already become a major player this season because these glossy hues will lighten and brighten one’s complexion. Other A-listers have also tried out the copper look, like Sydney Sweeney debuting her rosy shade of strawberry blonde. Zendaya has also been known to enviously experiment with red hues in the past. If it was ever in doubt about what shade du jour is, this exclusive circle of faux-red head celebs has made it quite clear. Consider asking your stylist to skip the highlights and go for a monochromatic look that will emphasise the vibrant, deep and luxurious tones.

5. Honey Caramel

You can never go wrong with some classic caramel swirls, especially if you’re looking to add just a touch of warmth to brighten up your face. Honey hues are a really natural way to add some flair to your typical winter style. For a more natural feel, we suggest asking your stylist for a lived-in look that doesn’t start from the root. If you’re a brunette, aim for some midlights that are one or two levels lighter than your base and neutral-warm highlights. The combo of honey and caramel blended together creates a warm glow that helps get you through those colder months.
