The Viral “Scandi Hairline” is our Latest Summer Essential

The latest hair trend to hit our feeds is the “Scandi hairline,” and we’ve discovered that it’s the perfect way to add a touch of lightness this summer.  It’s the hair colour trend that has had millions of views on Instagram and TikTok – and for very good reason. Dubbed the “Scandi hairline”, this clever hair hack is the subtle update to know about this summer, given its flattering hair- and face-brightening effects. Let’s look at everything you need to know about the trend and how to get it yourself.

The Trend

The Scandi hairline is short for “Scandinavian hairline” since it replicates the luminous hairline and baby hairs that often accompany natural blondes during the summer season. This moment can be captured with a freehand hair processing technique that lightens just the outer edges of your hair, adding a radiant touch to your overall look.

The Scandi hairline (or lift-lights) is the best way to lighten the front of your hairline without bleaching the whole head. It’s a good way to maintain the best condition for your hair and freshen up your hairline so you can get the extra stretch out of your colour.

The Technique

The technique involves your stylist weaving lightness through the baby hairs and forehead hairline. Using a fine-tooth comb, your stylist will be able to pick up even the softest of hairs and colour them a shade or two lighter than your base colour. Your stylist should leave out the base colour to build depth and dimension throughout the strands. By focusing on just the hairline, it softens the roots around your face and makes it look like your hair has been naturally kissed by the sun, lending a glowing frame to your face as well.

Think of the way your hair lifted on family holidays in the sunshine as a child, as your hairline lightened. And the best part is? By lightly colouring a tiny bit of root, you will never see it grow out. This light halo is relatively low maintenance, and you’ll only need to do it once or twice this summer! We recommend going for a colour that suits your natural base. Ask your stylist to lift just the finest line around your hair to a lighter shade.

How to Get the Look

No, you don’t have to be Scandinavian to get this look – and you don’t even have to be blonde! In fact, this can be achieved with any hair colour. When working with a darker base colour, we recommend lighting the hairline by one or two levels. This avoids creating too much contrast that may look unnatural.

Although you may think the end results will be high-maintenance, the upkeep is actually quite minimal. We would expect to see you every three months and if longer, we recommend asking for a gloss service and a K18 Detox Treatment to keep your halo bright. Make sure you implement a wash routine and treatment that will maintain your glow between services. We recommend the K18 Peptide Detox Shampoo paired with the K18 Molecular Repair mask.
