How are weft hair extensions applied?

A hair weft is a collection of hair strands sewn onto a super-thin cloth strip ready for your stylist to work into your hair. The hair is attached by being sewn by hand to the strip. Your stylist will hand sew your wefts so they are more delicate and much lighter. Those with finer hair will find hand-tied sew in wefts a much better fit as they’re lighter weight and won’t pull on the hair.

Your stylist will create a braided section through the hair and the wefts will be sewn in by hand, which is perfect for those wanting to steer clear from glue and heat! This method attaches the wefts by inserting tiny sections of both your natural hair and the hair extensions through tiny beads. The beads will clamp shut using a plier tool which secures the hair in place.

Application can vary from 2-4 hours depending on your hair type and how many extensions you wish to place. The results will last up to 9 weeks, however we recommend booking to have the extensions moved up every 6 weeks.

Consultation and Appointment

In order to colour match, a complimentary 15 minute consultation is required before a hair extension application appointment can be booked. Your stylist will educated you about the application process, pick the correct colour to best match your desired result and also discuss any colour work to your natural hair in order to create the perfect base for your hair extensions. 

Please arrive with clean and dry hair, your appointment will constist of colour work (if you have decided to colour your natural hair) and commence with your hair being dried and straightened for easy application of the tapes. Once tapes are applied, your hair will be cut and styled.

How to Care for Weft Hair Extensions

We stock a range of shampoos, conditioners, and detangling hairbrushes to keep your extensions looking their best. Book your maintenance appointments every 6-8 weeks. This is where extensions are removed, hair is washed and beaded extensions are refitted in your hair.

You may also choose to colour or tone your natural hair to refresh your look and match your tapes. With the correct aftercare and maintenance the hair can be reused for multiple salon applications, lasting up to 6-12 months.
