3 Ways To Style A Bob Haircut

From slicked-back to the beachy bob, here are the styles we’re wearing right now.

So, are you looking for a fresh ‘do, or maybe just a little bored with your current haircut? If yes, the bob is THE hairstyle to rock in 2023! Even your favourite stars like Hailey Bieber, Zendaya, and Emily Ratajkowski have jumped on the bob-wagon. Seriously, there’s no need for cold feet—this cut looks fab on everyone!

Curious how to style it? We caught up with our epic stylists who gave us the 411 on how to jazz up your bob. Keep on reading to get the scoop on our top three bob-styling tips.

1. Beachy Vibes, Anyone?

First, use a round brush to blow dry for some root volume and to eliminate frizz and flyaways. But make sure you don’t curl your hair in or out too much through the ends.  Once that’s done, time to curl those strands, keeping them away from your face. A little practice and you’ll master the art of leaving the tips straight for that casual vibe. You can twist the hair each time you move the curling iron down the hair and move the iron quickly through the very ends of each strand to create a straighter effect through the tips of the hair.

Next, prep your hair with a beachy texture spray and grab a wide-tooth comb to blend your curls. We recommend using Goldwell’s Creative Texture Dry Boost Texture Spray for the best results!

2. The Side Part is Back!

Ignore the TikTok wars—side parts are cool, especially on a bob! To nail that 90s side-part glam, start by applying a volumizing spray on wet hair. As you blow dry, focus on lifting those roots with a round brush. Pro tip: blow dry from the opposite side of your regular part to get that extra oomph. We also suggest blow-drying your hair up and away from your face, letting your hair cool down once it’s all dry. Once you’re done, shake up a dry, powdery styling spray, and apply it on roots and ends, and finally push your hair to its natural side.

3. Slick, Meet Chic

Want to go for an elegant look? Try the slicked-back bob. All you need to do is blow-dry your locks going backwards and then use some hair oil (like the Elixir Ultime Original Hair Oil from Kerastase) to keep it neat before tucking it behind your ears. Seal the deal with a flexible hairspray – the KMS HairStay Working Hairspray is one of our faves! If you’re worried about it staying put, sneak a bobby pin behind each ear.

For a bolder, wetter look, opt for pomade on damp hair, like Goldwell’s Creative Texture Mellogoo 3 – Modelling Paste. For the dramatic “wet look” version of this style, apply the product through your freshly washed, wet hair with a wide tooth comb and slick the hair away from your face. Then use a diffuser on your dryer to gently dry your hair on low heat. Alternatively, you can let your hair dry naturally and finish it off with a spritz of hairspray!

So, whether you’re new to the bob life or a bob veteran, there’s no better time than 2023 to reinvent this classic look. Got your scissors ready?
