The Mane Hair Trends for 2023

The new year is fast approaching and with it comes a slew of new hair trends. As 2022 wraps up, we find ourselves questioning our signature hairstyle and wondering if it’s time for a change.  Nothing says ‘New Year, New Me’ quite like a fresh new ‘do. Whether you’re ready to make the cut you’ve been putting off for months or change the colour of your hair according to your mood board, there are plenty of hair trends on the forecast for 2023.

We all know, hair trends come and go and what may have been in season one year may end up on the ‘do not subscribe’ list the next. For 2023, we are predicting a glam approach to some of our most effortless and classic hairstyles. Let’s take a look at the mane hair trends for 2023.

1. Wolf Cuts

As the name suggests, it’s a little wild, but the wolf cut can suit anybody’s vibe because it’s glam, edgy and très chic. Otherwise known as a shullet (shaggy mullet), this look is an ode to the mullet, but with a French twist. This cut works for any hair length and texture, so the appeal extends far and wide. Work with your stylist to determine how you would like the cut.

We recommend asking for a choppy layered bob that is short on top with length at the back. Then style with bangs parted in the middle and cut to curve the cheekbones. We are definitely predicting this look will be a staple for 2023.

2. Wednesday Addams Bangs

It’s the star-studded show of the moment, so we’re not surprised that the main character has exploded onto the style scene. That’s right, Wednesday Addams bangs are officially trending, and our salons can’t get enough of it.

A fuller, heavier, and more blunt version of curtain bangs, these bangs are slightly more polished and timelessly chic – meaning it’ll likely stick around in the new year and beyond season one’s peak streaming days. Regardless of your face shape or hair type, this blunt hairstyle is guaranteed to create the perfectly elevated and empowered woman mood.

3. Copper Continues

Speaking of timeless, it seems the copper hair trend is sticking around next year for some more strawberry kisses. We’ve witnessed Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, and Kendall Jenner take a ride to the fiery side with stunning results. If it was ever in doubt about what shade du jour is, this exclusive circle of faux-red head celebs has made it quite clear.

However, we see “natural beauty” on the horizon for 2023, so ask your stylist for softer and more neutral tones. Peachy copper is always a great way to add some vibrancy to your eyes and skin tone, while maintaining that au-naturale look. While deep, auburn tones, as well as strawberry blondes are continuing to saturate our Instagram feeds.

4. Bardot Blonde

Hey, you big flirt, let’s go to the salon and get this effortless, french-girl look. Bardot bangs have been around since the 70s and it looks like they’re here to stay. Pamela Anderson immortalised this blonde look during Baywatch and now celebs are inspiring us with their buttery va-va voom blowouts. Volume, bounce and shine are the secrets to unlocking this look.

Ask your stylist to contour the hair around your face with shorter, feathery layers starting at the centre and then lengthening out through the cheekbones. To prevent your colour from entering any yellow or ashy tones, we recommend going to the salon for regular glosses and picking up some quality take-home products to keep the brassiness at bay.

5. Sombré Chic

If anyone knows how to pull off natural glam it’s Hailey Beiber. Effortless and low maintenance locks are having a bit of a colour moment, which we like to call Sombré Chic. Swap out bright blonde tresses for a softer more low-key version of luxe ombré. This look is all about warm, rich, and hyper-feminine hues that move towards a more natural beauty approach for 2023.

This look can be achieved with a few strategically placed subtle highlights. Keep the highlights in the bronzed brunette family and never enter the root domain. We recommend leaving the root tone as natural as possible with glowing dimension between the bronze highlights and brunette base.

6. Grown Out Roots

Known as shadowing or smudging, this new trend is for our low-maintenance girlies. Why not take a leaf out of Kim Kardashians look book and show off your natural roots to the world? More refined than your lockdown regrowth, shadow roots are one of the chicest and longest enduring hair trends since the start of the pandemic.

There are many tips and tricks that promise the Holy Grail finish of smooth, blended colour – but shadow roots might be the best way to get that dreamy ‘lived-in’ look. It’s more elegant than regrowth, highlights your fresh colour and extends the life of your new look; it’s about time the shadow root trend gets the attention it deserves!

7. Expensive Brunette

We have been loving the brunette shades permeating our IG feeds lately. From Bella Hadid to Kendall Jenner, this style is sure to give off an aura of class as it leaves your locks looking perfectly polished, nourished and rich. Expensive brunette is ruling the hair world not just for its ease and versatility, but for its regal vibe too – just ask Kate Middleton or Megan Markle.

It doesn’t matter if you have blonde, black, red, or purple hair, anyone can adopt this trend. We recommend asking your colourist for a gloss that adds tonality and darkens your natural colour. The most important thing to nail this look is to give your hair some enhanced shine that will reflect more light on the darker shades. We recommend getting your hands on the Kérastase Elixir hair oil.
