Epic are heavily involved in industry awards and this year we are proud to announce our Senior Stylists Piere Taylor from our Springfield Lakes Salon was the proud recipient of the Avant Garde Up-Styling Award at this years’ Brisbane Hair and Beauty Expo.
Here is our recent interview with Piere, talking about his recent win, what inspired to create his unique entry and his passions within the Hairdressing Industry…
Q. Congratulations on your recent WIN at the Brisbane Hair & Beauty Expo Awards, Your look is beautiful, elegant, yet cool and modern, can you tell us about your inspiration?
“I wanted it to scream with no voice”
I had the image in my head that manifested into my final look, I drew from the Victorian Era (softer textures) however I wanted to incorporate a modern element (with sharper edges). I added touches of jewellery into the corset, neck corset of the dress and into the hair for added interest, whist trying to find balance and restraint to ensure elegance.
Q. I understand you actually hand made the dress? What went into the design and construction?
I was on a very tight budget so it pushed my creativity to its extreme to ensure I found fabrics and accessories and no or little cost.
My dress was created with plastic table cloths shredded into long strips, hand sewn into rooshed folds. The Dress took 3 months of late nights after work, often until after midnight to create, but it was worth it, I am so proud of it.
Q. Your models hair color is Sensational, is it her own hair and hair color?
Rebecca had long light brown virgin hair and that was about to change! Yes the copper is real hair and the silver is actually plaited wool.
I did lighten Rebecca’s hair with Powder Lightener and Olaplex to ensure the condition and integrity of her hair was maintained. I then did a double application of Elumen KK@all which is an amazing product that gives that vibrant, shiny copper.
Q. Can you tell us a little more about you and what you love about being a Hairdresser?
I love helping my clients to have a more confidence and opinion of themselves. I find it important to craft and sculpt a look just for them, it’s the artist coming out in me.
