There are lots of reasons why we decide to stride into our hairdressers and declare “Off with those locks!” It could be time for a radical change – any change! Or maybe you’re frustrated with those long strands and want something more practical. For their own particular reasons, so many celebs are rocking a short hairstyle in 2016. In fact, a shorter cut is the style. Not only are they easier to look after a short cut is a statement piece in itself! Here are some trendy celeb cuts which are far from basic – from lobs to bobs to pixie cuts – that will have you rocking up to your favourite stylist soon.
Jenna Dewan-Tatum always had long hair and decided she wanted a change – “Something new”. So she’s been getting progressively shorter – but not too short as “I enjoy the movement”. Jenna has a textured lob with some subtle face-framing highlights. A fresh chop and colour was the order of the day! The textured messy lob is popping up all over the place. Talk to your stylist to check the style will suit your face shape, natural hair texture and lifestyle. If you don’t have naturally wavy hair, you’re going to have a bit of work with heat styling, but leave the ends when curling so it has that ‘undone’ look.
Khloé K has the fairest locks of the famous Kardashian clan – and was one of the first sisters to have her golden locks chopped into a blunt lob. A blunt lob is even with no layers. It’s a super-easy style to take care of and usually makes your hair look stronger, thicker and oh so healthy. It certainly can show off the sleekness of your hair if you want. But like KK, you can still style those waves if you want.
Bob/Sideswept Bang Combo
Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project creator, star of The Office and generally hilarious person, rocks the windswept fringe look with her lovely long bangs. It’s true that sometimes short strands can be a nuisance to style and have some limitations. But not so with this style. In fact, if you’re cutting your long hair for the very first time but are a bit timid to try a short fringe, this is a great first step to get out of your comfort zone, gently.
When only short will do! There are some gals that can pull this one off. Lena Dunham went shorter again with this pixie cut. And it looks fab, fierce and feminine! A pixie cut can show off your best features and get you taken more seriously! (so says Tyra Banks!) Since short hair draws extra attention to your face, have a think about what features you’d like to accentuate with your pixie cut and have a chat with your hair designer. There are so many pixie cuts to choose from: asymmetrical, edgy, shaggy, messy, spiky, choppy…. Throw in some highlights or a new block colour, and get ready to turn heads with your feminine power!
Chin Length Bob
Short hair equals sexy hair. Proven by Jennifer Lopez’s transformation of her long locks to a short ‘n sexy chin length bob. A chin length bob is one of the easier ways to update your look. And it doesn’t mean you can’t style it. Look at J-Lo! You can still have movement with a bit of easy styling, some good hairspray and a working brush.
