Epic raises over $25K for victims of domestic violence

Women's Legal Service Queensland

Last year, Women’s Legal Service Queensland answered 13,397 calls to the Helpline. Sadly, due to increased demand, 30 percent of calls to the Helpline go unanswered.

At Epic Hair Designs, we’re determined to make a positive impact on the world around us, which is why on Sunday 27 February, we held the Epic Walk for DV to raise vital funds for women and their children impacted by domestic violence. The support we received from the community raised over $25,000.

The money raised from our Walk for DV event will go directly to Women’s Legal Service Queensland and help reduce the impact of domestic violence in Australia.

Domestic violence statistics in Australia are growing at a concerning rate, and it’s something that hits close to our hearts here at Epic.

“Sadly, one of our valued clients lost her life as a result of domestic violence in 2011 and it really hit home for us,” CEO and Director Brendon Mann said.

“More than 8,000 women support us each month and more than 90% of our hairdressers are women, so it goes without saying that we want to do what we can to support them in every way. A big part of that is doing what we can to help reduce the impact of domestic violence.”

To our valued clients who joined us last month, we’d like to thank you. Your support will go towards vital funding for Women’s Legal Service Queensland so that they can continue to make a difference in the domestic violence space.

But our work is not done. Next on the agenda? As we get closer to participating in Dancing CEOs later this year, where our Director, Brendon will be taking to the dancefloor competing against a host of CEOs across Brisbane, there are still a couple of fundraising events on the horizon, which will go directly to Women’s Legal Service Queensland and the important work they do. Stay tuned for more details.
